Your Guide

My name is Jenn Brown, and there is little I enjoy more than diving deep into the creative process with others.

Why? Because I’m curious and inquisitive, and I love tapping the wisdom and enthusiasm of people who are passionate, knowledgeable, and engaged.

I started my career in 2000 as an editor for Kitchen Gardener and Fine Gardening magazines. The ethos of those publications was to take time to talk to the enthusiastic experts—amateurs and professionals—who were experienced in a particular topic (even if that topic was how to grow a good carrot!).

I quickly realized that everyone has interesting ideas that have been shaped and influenced by their experiences, and my job was to discern the best way to share that information with those who wanted to learn to do something new or better.

I’ve carried this approach into all of my subsequent writing and editing work.

People who spend a lot of time thinking about things and working in a particular field have insights the rest of us don’t. I help crystalize those insights and assist in conveying them to the rest of the world in a clear and eloquent way.

I have worked as a writer and editor for organizations like The Synthesis Institute, Scenic Hudson, the Omega Institute, and 1440 Multiversity.

I have created online courses and trainings, launched newsletters and social media channels, built websites, and created content, including interviews with dozens of spiritual luminaries and thinkers like Adyashanti, Tara Brach, and Dan Siegel.

You can see a full list of my books, interviews, projects, and articles here.

After years of producing short-form content, in 2015 I edited my first book, Coming Alive, with the therapists Barry Michels and Phil Stutz (yes, the one from the Jonah Hill documentary, Stutz). In 2020, I ghostwrote Through the Eyes of a Canine, a book about dog psychology, with David Kurlander.

I am currently an acquisitions editor with Shambhala Publications, a family run publishing business creating spiritually grounded books that contribute to “the development of a thoughtful, kindhearted, and contemplative society.”

I also work on a limited number of freelance book projects, helping clients express the material that they are so passionate about.

In addition to my writing and editing career, I am also passionate about a somatic movement practice called the Feldenkrais Method, and I occasionally teach classed where I help people improve how they move. In a sense, you could say I am a movement editor with the goal of helping people discover new and more effective ways to move more comfortably. You can learn more about my Feldenkrais practice here.

I’m based in the Hudson Valley of New York and work with clients around the world.
